  1. A pedal-assist bike shouldn't be put in the same category as ebikes if you're calling that quasi-motorcycle an ebike. If the bike stops moving when you stop pedaling, it should be in a different category. That is definitely NOT an ebike.

  2. Why is everyone on about helmets?
The cyclist in the video literally said his helmet was cracked from the crash.
94% of all cyclists that suffer head injuries were wearing helmets.

The problem is not a failure to wear a helmet… it is getting run over by cars or E motorcycles.

  3. Glad the responsible cyclist is recovering. hope he is back to 100% soon. when he is ready to ride again he should get an ebike, either a road or mountain version, as they will help him greatly with recovery and getting back into shape.

  4. The problem is that these e-bike riders are going extremely fast without developing the skill set over time to handle the bike, its speed and anticipate potential hazards. There is also a huge issue with regards to these e-bikers respecting those on the trails around them.

  5. Aside from the obvious danger created by the high power/speed, there's also the fact that so many Americans who quite frankly could benefit from some physical exertion are now riding around on motorized vehicles, creating pollution (yes, electric vehicles pollute — both at the source of electrical generation and also in connection with their manufacture and disposal), adding to global warming, and consuming resources. Never mind the truly sad sight, increasingly common, of overweight young kids nowadays riding around on electric devices of all sorts. Kids, who ought to be moving and flexing and running to exhaustion. We're creating a generation of lazy, obese, unhealthy future adults.

  6. Perhaps a better wat to regulate the different types of "e-bikes" out there would be to differentiate their actual weight rather than wattage. The weight of these bikes plus the rider is what causes the most damage to others on the bike path. I.E. a both a 1500 watt ebike @80 lbs and a modern carbon fiber bicycle @17 lbs can reach speeds exceeding 30 mph but the ebike, can cause much worse amounts of damage or injuries in a crash.

  7. Mandatory motorcycle license for any throttle controled ebike should be mandatory !,,, the irresponsible kids and idiots like sironster are the problem !

  8. This reporting sucks! These aren't bikes, they're electric motorcycles. There's no pedaling going on. Conflating these with bikes is not just confusing, it's irresponsible and damaging to legitimate e-cyclists. The reporter also cited 750watt "batteries" instead of motors. People get paid to give us this valuable "information".

  9. I see your kids not wearing helmets every single day, dont pretend the law will fix stupid.

helmets cost so little for how much they are worth- SHAME
