After Juhannus (Finnish midsummer festivities) in Lake house at Pihtipudas I started a journey through the countyside and wilderness of North Karelia and Kainuu.

The most important source of energy for me was a cannabis cookie.

First I rode to Tiilikkajärvi national park and from there to Kuhmo. In Kuhmo I decided to stay at a hotel before entering the wilderness of Kainuu. At Raatteentie near the enemy lines my chain got tangled with the front derailleur, but I survived. I camped at Rautiainen's mill at Viena's trail. From there i rode to a small cabin with a sauna in Hossa national park.

In Kainuu i saw border patrol twice and one middle aged YouTuber dude. Twice a mine truck drove by me dangerously close on a narrow gravel road and the horseflies were big enough to kill. Even though I was on bear county, only bears I saw was on a side of a beercan.

"Kainuu on vaaroja(*) täynnä"

In Hossa I had a tiny MTB detour to see ancient rock paintings. From there I rode to Kajaani (stayed one night in a tent on the way) and took a train home.

*Vaara is in Finnish a hilly landscape between a ridge and a mountain. And vaara is also in Finnish a danger.

I took the biggest bite from the cookie this morning and made this post.
