Hi team, a little hlo would be really appreciated. Here we have a Redline Random (bronze), which is a chuck together what you have bike, and a WTP Crysis 2014 full Cromoly, still complete (black.

Both bikes are 21tt, have pretty similar stem, and from what i measured, 9.5inch rise bars.

WHY THE HELL DOES THE WTP FEEL OFF? I cant figure it out, it feels like 2-3 inches shorter, so my posture is horible on the bike. The stem seems to sit a bit higher with spacer on the Redline, and the tyre is 2.4 vs. 2.25 on WTP. But should this really make it that big of a difference?

I really like the WTP and would like to make it work, but don’t want to mindlessly spend the money on random parts.

  1. Spacer wont work as the stem is already at the top.
  2. Should I go for a 10.5inch raise bars? I am 181cm, so maybe a bit too much?
  3. Should I try to exchange the fork, stem and handlebar from redline on the WTP?

Thanks!

What’s your take? Am I missing something

  1. There is a lot more to the frame geometry. Check the head tube angle, seat tube angle, chain stay length, bottom bracket height, standover height in addition to top tube length.

Yo! (riding 12 years) I don’t like old WTP frames either, must be a weird BB height – When you can’t figure out what makes a bike feel strange, in my experience, it has always been because of a high BB height

Additionally you should consider: Stem length, HT angle, Fork offset and crank length – these can make a bike feel longer/ shorter – hope that helps 🙂

  3. Well, swap the front end of the RL over and eliminate that as a potential factor. If it feels better, narrow it down to which component it is by comparing or swapping them back one by one until you notice a change lol. It could also just be stuff like ht angle or BB height, or even longer or shorter chain stays.

Just judging by eye from photos, it looks like the RL has taller bars, tbh. Might be that. Fat tyres can make a small difference, but 0.15 inches is unlikely to be a massive change. BMX geometry hasn’t changed much since 2014, but there have been small changes for sure, so maybe you’re just picking up on those. It’s also entirely possible that you need to just get used to the bike. I had to learn to deliberately keep my back straight when I switched from DJ to BMX. I’m 187 cm, and I’m inclined to round my lower back when I’m pedalling around. I’m definitely planning on getting some taller bars, though.

I know its a typo but Im cracking up. I want a WTF bike 🤣 someone should make it a sticker in the styling or font of WTP

  5. its probably the bottom bracket height or chainstay length. does it loop out easy? tall bb long chainstay feels okay but adding height to the bottom bracket will lower the overall bar height. my redline has 11.8 bb 13.75 chainstay, when i switched to 13 CS i noticed much less stability when manuals and more responsive/twitchy bunnhops. i am 180cm as well, current setup is 11.6bb and 13.5 chainstay. can you add links to the chain? taller bars will sometimes help, but i actually liked lower bars which shifted my weight more over the front wheel. can you measure bb to bars? mtbers use this measurement idk what its called
