Buying my first bike. Which is better for a complete beginner? I used to ride BMX now 10 years later want a mtn. Guy will take $900 for specialized or $600 plus tax for ozark trail M.2 pro
Even tho a lil outdated the stump jumper will still be worlds better than the ozark trail. if everything works right with it

Stumpies are a really loved frame. If it was me I’d go with that. Obviously a used bike is used but unless something is drastically wrong it won’t matter for you.
Almost anything can be replaced/fixed EXCEPT cracked frames.

If you can test out the suspension and it really moves smoothly and holds air, I’d go for the Stumpie.
The Ozark Trail Pro is a really good deal if you really want a new bike, but it has a couple of component choices that will hold you back pretty quickly as you advance. While the Suntour XCM fork on it is functional, it isn’t great and the difference from a mid-level air fork is pretty big. The Recon tires are really good XC tires, but if you start riding anything steep and twisty, you will see a huge difference from them to Trail/DH tires like the Butcher (a fantastic front tire) on the Specialized. Finally, the XT shifter seems like a minor thing, but once you get used to up-and-down multi shifting, it is really hard to ride a bike with anything else.

That generation of the Stumpy is excellent. It will be far superior to the Ozark. It will be easy to upgrade and repair. It’s one of the most popular bikes around.
You’ll just want to check it over to make sure it is in ridable condition. Most likely it will need some maintenance. But it’s a sold base to work with.
