I had a bit of a freak incident last week and kicked up a stick that went in between my spokes and ripped my brake line off. I replaced the line, but fluid spilled all over the caliper and pads. I hit them with some brake cleaner, but still sounds like a clown car. 😂 Planning to replace the pads, but does the rotor need to go too? I don't want to get new pads only to have them instantly contaminated by the rotor. Any methods to try cleaning the rotor before new pads go on?

Can I get by with replacing the pads, or is my rotor cooked too?

  1. That shit loud ass fuck when the forest is quiet. I haaaatteee it.

Anyway Ive had luck with 90% isopropyl alcohol. Not sure it will fix something brake cleaner missed.

theoretically just the pads. But you need to clean your rotor using isopropyl. And also give your caliper (including the slot where the pads go) a good wipe so residual fluid doesnt ruin the next pair

  3. IPA and 220 sandpaper. IPA, clean rag, sandpaper, IPA, rag, torch. Rotor is salvageable but pads are hard to save. Same protocol for both, need a good bedding session after.
