Your drivetrain sounds like there’s a small creature in their crying for help when was the last time you lubed your chain? Also make sure your gearing is in alignment as well Brompton have guides on YouTube for that.

Could be a lot of things, and it is probably a few. But if you’re since you asked if you to use oil on a bike, that is likely the first issue as it means you are not putting anything on it.
First clean the chain with a microfibre cloth and some
degreaser. Let it dry a bit, the put oil on the chain, pedal the cranks backwards slowly as you put a drops on each link. Wipe ofd excess.
Go for a small cycle and shift through gears and see if any noise. If it continues, then put some oil in the hinge clamps. Then test ride again.
If it continues, try putting oil in the pedals and around the crank shaft. If it is still noisy, then sadly it is the bottom bracket. The bottom bracket is cheap and made of plastic, it wears down quickly and the bearings can wear making awful noise. At least it is cheap to replace!
If you want it just speed up the process of testing just put oil on everything at once and then go for a ride, but you won’t work out exactly what the issue is that way.

the main culprits for creaking are :
1. the suspension block
2. The rear triangle pivot
3. the main frame hinge
4. Seat post sleeve
5. saddle or pentaclip
