Been deep in the research for ages now, basically looking to do months in Canada/USA on a bike (assuming a mix of all kinds of trails, no idea where I will end up) but don't have too much cash + options for bikepacking bikes in AKL are pretty crap.
Found the Marin Four Corners 1 for sale for 1,800NZD, just wondering if anyone would strongly suggest not going for that? Looks like it's got all my needs + reviewers say it is very comfortable which I like, plus it should last for ages and I could sell it later down the line. It has 29ers but I'm not sure about tyre clearance and doubt I would keep the stock ones.
There is also a marketplace seller selling his hardtail with some gear for NZD1000, but I'm not sure I would fit it as it is extra large and I'm just shy of 6ft. If it did fit then i would also worry about maintaining the suspension and fitting it into the bike box for the plane. It also only has 27.5s and I dont know what tyre he has on, it's not as built for bikepacking but he looks like he's done a good job with it regardless.
Tbh I'm willing to accept that this is all short term and some things will not be ideal. Ive been researching so long i just need a bike, so it will be one of these 2, I'm just keen to get out there and go!

It’s a super comfortable bike. Perfect for what you want. I currently have 29×2.1 Mezcals fitted to mine.
Seems like a perfectly viable option. I’d would be looking to see if the gearing was appropriate for the trip and drivetrain condition
I’ve had mine for 4.5 years and still going strong. I use it daily, for week end trips, for multi-weeks bikepacking trips, I’ve used it for gravel races and even did a small triathlon with it (that may be the only thing were it was a stretch to use that bike) and it’s perfect for all scenarios. It’s though, handles very well, the geometry is very relaxing for big days on the bike.
Last week I met a guy in the train who did an 11 months trip around Africa with the same bike and loved it too.
