It’s been a long journey from Utah to southern France. Now, the real adventure begins.
This is Episode 3 of our EuroVelo family cycling adventure.
After arriving in Marseille and finding our way to the EuroVelo route, we spend a couple of days settling in at a campsite in Sausset-les-Pins, exploring the area, enjoying the Mediterranean coast, and preparing for our first day on the road.
Then it’s finally time to ride.
In this episode, we leave the campsite and begin our journey across Europe as a family. We pedal our first miles along the EuroVelo route, experience the highs and challenges of life on loaded touring bikes, and make our way to Port-Saint-Louis before ending the day at Velo Camargue.
By the end of Day 1, we had ridden about 37 miles and learned that bicycle touring with six kids is every bit as rewarding, exhausting, and unpredictable as we imagined.
If you’ve ever dreamed about bicycle touring, family travel, bikepacking, or exploring Europe at the pace of a bicycle, we hope this series inspires you to start planning your own adventure.

It was my frst thought, when I ve read about your plan. Much too dangerous.
And I am European and drive almost everything by bike. But with little kids? Heavy.
And in Spain? No way. I Would have started in the Netherlands, or Denmark or maybe Northern Germany. So it will be better in the North, but still very dangerous.
All the best, good luck, stay safe and allways a good wind for you all.
Marseille is the most anti-bike city in France, it's so carbrained. I will never set foot in that city.
