While trying to figure out a less extortionate replacement for my easy wheels, I saw that brompton is now selling aluminium ones. This would seem to defeat the argument that third party wheels are a recipe for frame bending. (It also seems like some people have the same frame bending issue with branded easy wheels, so maybe the issue is just that the wheel attachment design has issues.)

I can’t find the quote but more recently Brompton have debunked the plastic breakaway wheels to protect the frame theory. Frankly I think it was mental olympics by Brompton apologists. It’s trivial to damage a Brompton with itself by simply folding it wrong, which every new owner does.

Brompton have been selling wheels for a while now. Frame bending is of zero concern anymore as they removed the old stalk style system and instead the wheels are threaded directly into the tubular brace so you can’t bend it anymore. Wheels however are still overpriced and they’re are much better and cheaper options available elsewhere.

What are the good cheap recommendations these days for using with a rack? It’d have to spend $140 for these which seems like a lot.
