Hey Reddit,
Me and my partner are cycling the Alpe Adria route from Salzburg to Villach, and are hoping to get to Slovenia.
It's been more difficult than I expected to plan for daily distance, roughly 45km days, and find good cheap campsites.
Has anyone done this route and have good camping experiences? Or know any good hosts?
I'm assuming wild camping is too illegal to try, but it's frustrating that most campsites cost nearly €40 for 2 adults and a small tent?
It's also annoying that most campsites seem to cater for motorhomes and caravans, and tents often get treated as an afterthought, but still expected to pay full prices.
Many thanks,
G

40 euros is crazy! Between 25 and 35 euros was my experience a year ago, but we were in slovenia and croatia. You can experiment with wildcamping, which I think is the most fun. Pick a nice nature spot on googlemaps in nature, or use park4night app. Go there around sundown, eat and chill and pitch your tent when its almost dark. Get up early and leave with sunrise!
That’s why I wildcamp almost everywhere. That 40 euros saved is then my daily budget for food/places
way too eypensive. it‘s frustrating
Wild camping, use camping sites every 3/4 night to shower, laundry and charging devices
I had different accomodations during my trip. Once I slept besides a Gemeindehaus, once in an abandoned or half built house, in an industrial park (got woken up by a wild boar at night). Personally I love sleeping in tent more, because it gives you some private sphere.
Austria is quite expensive, the campsites I stayed at were all 20€ for just me. However, there were plenty of them at EuroVelo 7 route at least.
