Our friend group just finished our first bikepacking trip together doing a modified Cowichan Valley 8 route on Vancouver Island.

We all had a great time, and for four of us it was our very first bikepacking trip.

We all really enjoyed reading this post when we were getting prepped to go, so we figured we would do the same and offer our newbie rigs to be roasted! Feel free to guess which person is the seasoned bikepacker!

Also – big thanks to this community for helping us prepare!

  1. 3/5 – Cool framebag, but no need for two racks. Could ditch the handlebar bag and just throw it on the front rack, or get rid of the front rack altogether.

2/5 – Too much bike, not enough things.

3/5 – One sided pannier is bad. Also frame bag is way too small. Otherwise cool rig.

4/5 – Pretty dialed. Too much on the saddle.

    5/5 – No notes.

Looks like a fun trip. Love seeing this much Arkel gear – love their shit.

They all look like fun rigs especially for some of your first trips. Best part of finishing a bikepacking trip is figuring out what you’ll change for next time. Hope everyone is already thinking about the next one. That’s all that really matters (The rear rack on #2 terrifies me haha)
