Picked this up about a month ago for riding around the neighbourhood while I try and figure out how to service the internal geared hub on my other bike. It's a Canadian-made Peugeot, and I'm guessing it's a 1986 (serial number on the seat tube starts with 6, several parts appear to have 1985 date codes). I'm also assuming it's a lower-end model between the Carbolite 103 frame (whole thing is 28.6lb as per a cheap luggage scale) and everything I can find on the assorted components is that it's all cheaper stuff.
I did check the brochures on Bike Boom Peugeot, but sadly the Canadian ones are missing between '83-'88, it doesn't quite line up with any of the models on either end, or any foreign market models, and except for there being a few on Facebook Marketplace, it just doesn't exist as far as the internet is concerned. The gearing is a bit weird (40/48t up front where it looks like most were 42/52), and most of the low-end stuff had safety levers this doesn't have. Is there anything I should know about it, or is it some kind of budget parts bin special?
I do like it (pleasant enough to get around on, I'm a sucker for the stripes and such, and it sparkles nicely in the sun), although it's a bit big for me, so I'll probably just keep gently cleaning it up and moving onto something more suitable eventually. Still, I played with a lot of Majorette cars as a kid, so this is checking off owning a Peugeot (albeit two wheels instead of four), and it's something to geek out on for a bit.
