Roast my kit and setup. In 4 weeks time I’ll be going coast to coast across the USA for 3 months.

Only thing different than in the picture, is I plan on replacing the top tube bag with 2x tailfin fork packs so I can keep everything scented away from the rest of my kit.

Have an overnighter planned this weekend to properly test everything but it would be great to hear from more experienced people beforehand.

Edit: replacing the altura ultralight panniers with tailfin panniers as they’ve just torn themselves apart.

I’m assuming you’re taking your phone so won’t need dedicated GPS? Maybe add battery bank. Also I’d throw in MP3 player, sunblock, some combination of wet wipes/towels/hand sanitizer. I also like to take some sort of essential oil (eg citronella lavender or tea tree) to keep bugs away and stay smelling fresh. Maybe some sort of bitt butter for long days in the saddle

  2. I’d carry 2 tubes and buff up your repair kit a bit, especially for the western half of the US where the next town can be a long, long ways away and the mountains are tall.

Here’s a good article on what to bring. I’d bring basically everything listed there, focusing especially on the tire repair section. Some of the roads and routes in the US are simply brutal on tires, especially when you’ve got all the extra weight of a loaded bike.

  3. Solid kit, I am sure there is some tape, fire starter, bags for waste etc. in it as well.

But are you thinking about no tube bag, snack pouch at all? Because snacks always at hand, easy way to store phone, money, sunglasses making the life very easy.

And please consider bringing an empty bag for shopping and an empty snack pouch for exchangeable PET/Cans while on the road… always makes my life easier 😄
    Safe travels!

That seems tight to me. I haven’t done as much bike packing as most people on this sub so what you have seems adequate. I would say he could probably ditch the bear spray. I’ve lived out in the western state my whole life, and have never ever carried it. Also, don’t worry about scented things. Again, I’ve been camping in Colorado and Alaska my whole life and I have never ever worried about this. It’s virtually impossible to remove scented items without making your camping life very difficult. Also, your body is the biggest attractant to a bear that would actually eat you but of course 99% of them will not even try.
