New experience for me tonight. I'm riding my bike on a local route I've ridden dozens of times. About 3 miles into the ride I get this quick shock run through my crotch, literally felt like I was getting my balls shocked. 🤦🏻♂️☠️😳
WTH was that!?!? Just assumed it was some freak nerve thing. Continued on…riding back home…in the exact same location, 3 miles from home it happens again! WTH!?!?
It happened both times right under these power lines. Only difference is that tonight I was wearing really thin running shorts instead of bike shorts. My inner thighs brush the metal seat rails.
In the name of science very briefly thought about riding under the power lines again but decided it was not worth the pain!

Ya grew up dealing with this. The pedal to the local skatepark/ dirt jumps brought me under some power lines.
The lock on clamps for my grips would be quite the exciting thing to rest my hands on.

One of the relevant points is that electricity doesn’t really flow down the power lines and is actually all around it. (Anybody who knows this subject well, please correct and add to that if you like 🙂)

Ask the Santa Clara 49ers how that’s going for them.
For those that don’t watch NFL, the 49ers practice facility is next to one of those big power transfer stations. Injuries are common in the NFL, but the 9ers were decimated this season with injuries. The coach and front office called for an investigation into the power station. I don’t know if there’s a correlation, but I don’t blame them for wondering.
I get these biking to work under some power lines and I can audibly hear electrical zapping in the air. It only happens when it’s humid and I’m wearing thin pants as well. but I’ve made a habit of just standing up and pedaling under the lines to avoid getting zapped.
This is a shocking tale.

Happened to me too the other day!! It was because my sweaty thighs were slightly touching the metal thin bars under the saddle. O thought I was hallucinating or that I got stung by a bee. Glad I am not the only one 😀 never had it happen in all my life before.
I did not experience this yet, and there is more trails around leading right under the power lines, but I heard about it a a few times. Ouch 😅
