After living my entire life in Colorado Springs, I decided it's time I finally visit my hometown mountain, Pikes Peak. And what better way than by bike?!
The moment I hit 12k feet (~treeline), the wind gusts became so incredibly intense I was almost blown off the side of the mountain several times. I probably should've turned around but giving up was not an option!
One of the hardest rides I've ever done!

Nice job!
Great job! I’m up North next to RMNP but need to make it down there for this. Is the entire way paved, how bad was the temp difference between top and bottom?
Is the ride paved all the way to the top? What’s the traffic like? It’s best to avoid weekends. Is there a good starting point or a place to launch from the base? Any tips are appreciated—I need something new to ride out of the mountains in Arizona.
Great job. Did you ride down? I rode up a few years ago and shuttled down, glad I did too.
Congrats and great ride on a super hard climb!
that wind at treeline is no joke, especially on a bike that exposed, props for pushing through instead of bailing out.
Congrats!
The sign is wrong. It should read 14,110′.
Nice that’s some lung busting of a climb
What an effort! Was there an elevation threshold that “hit” your lungs?
I’ve never been, but always have wanted to ride to the top… I’m only about four hours away. I think I would probably take my mtb instead of my road bike though so I have better brakes for the way back down 😅
Great job! How’d did the wheels work out for you? I have a set each for my road and gravel bikes. And have been very happy with them.
Welcome to my city!! I have done the ride a couple of times.
Excellent work. Done it twice myself and will probably do it again someday. The last 2 mile 10% segment at the top is “fun”. Did you get a donut? Gonna be out in Manitou Springs the 22-24th if you have any other routes to recommend!
