As I was scrolling through marketplace looking for a medium bike for my wife, this beauty was listed for £400. I immediately contacted the guy and went for a look.
When I went to collect it I realised that, although it’s a great bike and all of the main components are in great shape (frame, forks, shock etc) there are small bits of the bike that just aren’t right.
For example, the calliper bolts and pin are rusty, so could do with replacing. The cables aren’t routed internally and are tied to the down tube with electrical tape, the brake levers are stiff and don’t return nicely, the pivot bearings feel lovely bit I can see a bit of rust in there when o look closely, the grips are shot, the dropper lever is a button and on the wrong side and the seat is ripped at the back.
Still, I think I got an absolute bargain and the missus loves the colour and style.
What are your thoughts?
Are the bearings, bolts, pins etc easy to come by? I haven’t looked yet, as I’m now building a bin-store 🤣
Also, what is the rear shock? I don’t recognise it.
Thanks ☺️

I like it…i think you got a good deal
It’s a keeper
I would say as long as the bolt threads are good leave them for now.
That shock is a Cane Creek Air IL, a very nice shock.
If you have the money maybe you should replace the brakes entirely, guides are kinda crap and most I have squeezed feel like they have hone in the lines.
Grips of course are disgusting so probably get a new pair of whatever’s.
The dropper, if it works, don’t touch it. As far as I can tell it’s the old reverb and those are really bad. after some time the don’t actually lock when you release the button and you also need to press it very forcefully to get it to move. If it works, just put it on the other side and call it good.
The seat I wouldn’t care to change it if it’s comfortable.
If you can take the rear swing arm off to make sure the frame bearings are all ok since that could technically ruin a frame.
That looks like a Cane Creek Double Barrel shock.
Dropper is a reverb
If it works, just move the lever from the top on the right, to on the bottom on the left
If it doesn’t work, bin it and buy a new cable operated one for £100/150
