Hey, I borrowed a BMX bike from a friend, planning to maybe buy it from him. So far, I've had a lot of fun riding it.

Two days ago, I took the bike to a pumptrack where I usually take my dirt jump. Today, I tried some "street" riding, doing some hop 180s and fakies. (Not much success, though lol)

I usually ride mountain bikes, and BMX bikes are pretty drastically different from MTBs, so it's not easy for me to get into it. I would love it if some of you could help me out by telling me what I should practice first on the BMX and other useful things to know for beginners.

  1. Well the staples are manuals and hop variations (bunnyhop, j-hop, nollie). IMO, for grinds, feebles are usually the first to learn followed but double peg, ice and nose picks. For off the ground stuff, people learn x-ups, barspins, no footers and crankflips first then on to tailwhips and can-cans. Youre already on 180s so just push to flat 3s and youre golden! Get after it!!

Picked it up last year and for me doing simple lines on transition and grinds has been a lot of fun and not overwhelming.

  3. First step: uncork that brake cable. Then fuckin like learn to bunny hop with control and intention.

Bruh, I wish you would swap the fork from the mtb over to your BMX and see what you could do prior to trying to adjust to a longer frame
