Good morning,
I’m looking at purchasing my first bike since I was a kid. It’s mostly going to be used for zipping around the neighborhood, and we are also fortunate to have a bunch of beautiful light trails around our house.
I’m a relatively larger guy being 6 feet tall and about 250 pounds… I won’t be doing anything extreme with the bike… Mostly riding around with our 8 year old daughter.
I have it narrowed down to these two bikes. What are your thoughts? Is one better for a bigger guy like me? Thank you in advance.

Trek has hydraulic brakes, talon has through axle frame, that’s about the only difference.
Theyre pretty much identical….
Both are very entry level bikes. You really can’t go wrong on either.
If it were me, I’d choose based on which local shop is closer or easier to work with. If you break it or want to upgrade, having a shop that is close by and you trust is key.
As another comment said, the Trek has hydraulic brakes but the Giant has through axels.
Through axels are better for stiffness and at your weight that is important. Also at your weight good brakes are important.
I would say the Giant for the axels is a better choice since it may be limiting in the future. You can get Shimano MT200 brakes for really cheap on the internet and they are extremely reliable to upgrade the brakes, even right away if you don’t like the cable brakes.
Please look up Polygon Xtrada 5, 2026 version. Might be in your budget and it is better than both of them.
