Hi guys, I’ve been cycling in September on a Facebook marketplace bike I grabbed for 400 bucks. I became interested in triathlon but didn’t know how to ride a bike so I picked up a super cheap one just to see if I like the sport of cycling(I definitely do). Now that I know I enjoy cycling i was hoping you guys could help me find my next bike. I’m sort of looking for an all rounder road bike. Something that can keep up with faster group rides but also possibly comfortably ride up to 160 miles because of a popular ride in my state I want to do eventually. I know both of those things probably depend on the rider as well as the bike tho. Also something with round bars that I can fit my clip on aero bars to. I only say this because I was really intrigued by seeing online a sava f20 recommendation only to see flat bars.
My budget is around 2000. I’m open to new or used with bike recommendations to look out for. I honestly think I’d prefer aluminum over carbon purely because I’ve heard of different maintenance and care things you have to be aware of for carbon and I don’t want to make some dumb beginner mistake and cook my bike. Been looking at stores around and one bike I’m intrigued by is the specialized allez comp with a shimano 105.(picture attached). Some have said it’d be a good choice and other have said I would get way more value on the used market. Anyway, thank you for reading this hoping to see your guys insights or recommendations as I am fairly knowledgeable.

Typically you’d get more value on the used market, but it would require you to know what to look for. $2000 can get you a really nice used bike.
That being said with that sort of budget you could be looking at something new, like a Trek Domane AL5 (Shimano 105) or the aforementioned Specialized Allez Comp. Both of these bikes are going to be comfortable at 160 miles, though I don’t think any bike will feel “good” at that point.
You could look on FB marketplace or Craigslist and see what’s listed in your area, if nothing jumps out to you for the next week or so it may be time to start looking at new bikes!
