A few years ago I got an old „Hercules Impressione“ from my older brother. After a collision with a car I had to replace the fork and the handlebar (on the third picture you can see what it looked like before). I decided to modernize it on a budget since I didn’t have too much money and my hands always got numb while riding with the old RSX STI’s.
Well it escalated quickly and it turned into what you see above. I got a 1 inch full carbon fork, Ultegra-like STI’s and carbon wheels (50 mm deep Elitewheels) from Aliexpress. Handlebar, stem and seatpost from Zipp in silver (all service course) and a second hand Selle Italia saddle. And just for the style I got a big frame pump.
The drivetrain remained the same (2×8) – a mix of a Tiagra FD, a RSX RD and an old 600 Crankset.
And true to the motto “mod it till it breaks” I added a 3D printed backlight mount I designed by myself. Also I had to print a spacer to fit the 8 speed cassette to the 11/12 speed freehub.
I did about 600 km so far without any issues.
And in total it cost me about 600€.
Just wanted to share my build and am curious what you guys think about it.

I love it, looks like you did some real nice work restoring/modifying it!
I would love to get into building up bikes like this. I have a friend who does it, and I just think it’s so cool. He always shows up to group rides on the coolest bikes.
It’s great. Period. Congrats and have fun!
Looks awesome! Great composition of parts!
Those tube dimensions look similar to some welded magnesium frames that were around back then. Downtube in particular. Cant remember the name but I think they were Eastern European.
