Sharing this here because I don’t think anyone other than you guys can relate to this experience. I’m close to the end of my first tour – westward across the Canadian prairies – and I had a really tough day today. Cycled about 80km into head/crosswinds that were 30-40kmh gusting to 50kmh, and I was climbing in elevation most of the ride. It took me almost 8 hours of cycling. At one point with 20km left I gave up and tried to hitchhike, but after about 30 minutes of trying and a bunch of people looking at me weird, i gave up on that too. I decided to just dig as deep as I could to get myself there and I did (screamed into the wind quite a bit). Got myself a loaded burger and onion rings when I arrived and I don’t think food has ever tasted better. I have another couple days of this type 2 fun and I’m sure I’m going to look back at it with fondness some day. Had some beautiful badland views along the way.

It sounds rough but man is that GORGEOUS! 😍
Way to go and that’s how to mitigate a tough day. Good food restores the legs and the mental health.
Headwinds are not a test of strength, they’re a test of will. Good job getting through it!
I made the boneheaded move to tour from Montreal to Toronto into the winds. May the indomitable human spirit guide me as it did you. Your story has given me confidence 💪
