Recently, I was cruising FB marketplace after enjoying some cannabis and came across this beautiful specimen. It’s a 2001 Ellsworth Truth frame with the fork and shock from a 2011 Salsa Spearfish, laced up to some 26in rims that are driven by a single speed drivetrain. And let me tell you, this bike RIPS. I went out with my normal crew of above average XC riders and was able to easily keep and set the pace on a relatively flat riding area near me. It’ll get some type of budget 9 or 10 speed drivetrain in the future, but I’m just enjoying as it is for this season.

Looks like a good find. I would invest in a dropper post. I will never ride a mountain bike without one again.

Has the same components as a specialized stump jumper I’m borrowing from the same era! Looks great! That fork is surprisingly good.

Bro this thing looks fun as fuck. Put some riser bars on that bitch and shred.

  4. That looks awesome. Geometry looks pretty good with that newer fork considering the bike is 25 years old at this point.

Check the seat tube for cracking under the gusset. They alll crack. Seriously. They also develop hairline cracks at the chainstay yoke.

  6. Those were some lust-worthy bikes back in the day. This one looks mint. Probably still rips on XC trails, just don’t take it down any jump lines, lol.

  7. That bike was so fkn sick back in the day

Edit: I had typed some stupid Reddit advice about the dropper then I read your comment better . Rad find

Nice, I am currently gathering parts to build up a 2001 Truth right now….was my dream 24 hour rig back in the day. Wayyy back in the day!

  9. Had a Truth of that era. 4 bar link suspension that actually worked going up as well as down. Rode it for 2 years but the travel was lacking for the riding in SW MT so I did a trade in for an Epiphany. I liked that well enough but the head angle was (IMO) a bit too steep making it unpredictable on technical terrain. Beautiful workmanship on the frames.

Ellsworth were so hot back in the day. I had a Truth with an Id rear and that thing Fucked! One of the best riding bikes. The Id rear let me use a Ti spring with a dampener and it was like riding on butter. I still have it in the garage laced up to some old I9s.
