Hi there! I’m on the hunt for my first entry level road bike, a little bit of a “do it all” but mainly for cross training with running.
I just got sized for a Trek at my local bike store so took to marketplace to see what’s available in 52cm. Here’s the description for this one:
“Great condition! Trek Lexa SXL Aluminum road bike. Frame size is 52cm. Bike has black and white frame with blue accents. Bontrager wheels with Zaffiro tires. Drop handlebars and standard pedals.”
It’s been in a storage unit for some time and likely needs a tune up. It’s listed for 450 but she said she would sell it for 380. What do you think for my first bike?

2011 is fairly old. I’d want more details on the drivetrain and I also am not sure the rim brakes are super ideal. Tires look to be in decent shape but could be rotted or not hold air if they’ve sat long enough. My only concern is that you could pay 380 now and end up spending 600-700 after repairs/replacements, and with that you could get a newer bike.
its a fair price for a working bike of that qaulity which fits you in a HCOL area. retailed for 1600$, a comparable level 2026 trek would be 2-3000$ new.
I would say $300 is a fair price for an older bike that was $1,500. It can be hard to find smaller frames like this, with or without the women’s specific geometry though, so overpaying a little can be better than spending hours scouring listings and going all over town.
Negotiate for $250-$300 depending on condition. See if cranks, brakes, shifters work. Check for tire wear like cracks or rot.Tune up will run you around $150 just on labor alone.
