I’m back in Hammerfest, the city I grew up in – after more than five years away. It feels both strange, nice and a little nostalgic to be back on my bike here in the world’s northernmost city with city status. Hammerfest municipality has around 11,000 inhabitants, and its history stretches all the way back to 1789, when the city received its first market town rights. During World War II, almost the entire city was burned down, but Hammerfest rose again – stronger than ever. 💙❄️
In this 5-minute film, I take you up the mountain, on the gravel road that leads to the peak Tyven. The weather is typical Finnmark: a little fog, a little wind, a little mystery – just like the coast often shows on a summer day. 🌫️🌬️
On the way, I stop at a small river. I’m thirsty, so I go straight into the water and drink ice-cold mountain water – there’s nothing better than real natural water straight from the source. ❄️💧
After a little chat in front of the camera, I roll on down the mountain. On the way, I pass a quiet mountain lake that lies like a mirror along the gravel road. Towards the end of the film, if you look out to sea, you’ll catch sight of Melkøya – the island that houses Equinor’s LNG plant. The plant was put into operation in 2007, and is one of Norway’s most important energy hubs for gas production and export. ⚡🏭🌍
