We cycled from Roncesvalles, Spain to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France via the Euro Velo 3 route. The route took us over the Pyrenees, pushing our bikes to a high mountain pass before a full timelapse descent all the way down to sea level.
This was one of the hardest — and most rewarding — days of our entire bike tour. This video is just the first half of that long day.

The Pyrenees themselves form a natural border between Spain and France, and crossing them by bicycle means long climbs, moist, thinner air, quiet mountain roads, and some bicycle pushing. After hours of climbing, we finally plunge into the fog, turning miles into mere minutes. Towards the bottom, we finally emerge from the cloud with the entire country of France ahead of us.

This video is part of our long-distance bicycle tour across Europe. Traveling slowly, avoiding major highways, and crossing landscapes under our own power — one mountain range, ocean, and river at a time.

I’ll be posting bi-weekly videos of our trip across Europe. Subscribe if you’d like to follow along.
