I decided I wanted a new bike, but then I realised my bike was fine and I was just bored with my old bike I had had for 10 years. A paint job would make me love it again.

\- Started with a sand down with 120 grit. If I was spraying again I would just use 100 grit, but there were a few stickers and things that needed to come off so 120 worked well this time.

\- Then a spray with two coats of grey car primer

\- 2 coats of colour (again car paint, from Halfords)

\- Finally 2 coats of 2k clear coat (the two part one you have to activate)

I also changed the bottom bracket to give it a smoother ride, added handle bar tape to match the wheels, and replaced all the rusting bolts with stainless steel bolts so they pop.

I'm incredibly happy with my bike now for commuting use and occasional longer rides!

This was also my first time doing any kind of rattle can paint job, so I know there are some room for improvements and I purposefully didn't take a zoomed in photo of the one place where I had a paint run on the wheels!

NCD – new color day. I feel you. It’s like starting over with a fresh new bike… but I’d now tackle the bar tape to make it match the rims. Just a little off makes a big difference…

  2. I like it. Years ago I scored a crashed gravel bike for free that was bright red and had really cringey political stickers all over it. I tried to remove them but it was a hassle so I ended up just painting it. Primer, semi gloss black, and clearcoat, and, like you, added bright accents. I think it is my favorite bike I’ve ever owned because of all of that. It has history.

    I dig your bike 😄
