  1. I’d get an angle grinder resistant lock. These can be cut in under 30 seconds. Checkout Litelok or Hiplok.

Sure. I use this as-is, but I don’t live in a city with angle-grinder thieves (just opportunistic ones) and park in well-observed public places.

  3. Not sure if there are better padlocks of that type. Would be interested to know if there are though

Other brands sell chains without locks if you want to mix and match without buying a lock that you won’t use. E.g. ABUS sells conventional chains and loop chains sans locks.

Use the chain for your front wheel. The lock is fine for that. Get a D-Lock like a Kryptonite New York fir the frame and rear wheel.

  6. If that lock isn’t stopping a thief during a commuter stop in broad daylight, I’d just reconsider leaving my bike there

Or just get a second lock, alarm, etc

    Or a cheaper bike

  7. Go ask at your local bike shop, rather than buy from the company that’s trying to run them out of business. Amazon won’t service your bike.

You need thicker chainlinks. I think over 15/16mm you can’t use bolt cutters (simply too thick). But yes, you definitely need a better u bolt for that in any case.

  9. it really doesn’t matter… at some level, you’ve deterred most “target of opportunity” thieves and assented to:
“*if they want that bike, they will get that bike*” or destroy it trying. imho, in addition to a decent but convenient (for you) securing… it’s better to put the efforts in to not being the easiest most accessible, nor the most desired/pretty, bike. good luck!

The same brand has another where without a padlock, the chain goes into a lock cylinder

  11. I feel like it’s diamond-coated u lock or bust these days. I have one of these krypto chains and lugging it around really sucks.

  12. You think you know better than Kryptonite? I have that chain and it has a unique lock. Just use it.
