Recently bought a 2024 Stigmata. Thought I was 6'2" for the longest time so I got the XL. but recently went to the doctor and they said I'm 6'1". That puts me squarely in the XL category. However I'm getting pain in my right shoulder/neck area and my right hand is going numb to the point where I'm losing fine motor control. Found this out this weekend after putting about 86 miles on the thing from Friday to today. I have already reached out to a physical therapist/bike fitter but there's a wait-list so curious what you guys might think in the meantime. Granted I've never been into cycling until about a month ago so thought maybe it was just that. But being it's only my right arm I'm not sure. Frustrating cause I went to three different shops and they all told me to go XL.

  1. Could be a ton of things.

    – Core too weak and/or muscular imbalances

    – Reach too long (or too short)

    – Saddle too high or too low

    – Saddle too far forward

    – Bar too wide

    Really hard to give tips.

  2. Looking on the geo I would suspect it may be too big for you but you’ll get the real answer from the bike fitter when you see them.

I’m also 6’1″ and looking at the geo chart I would have probably bought the medium if it was for me.

Don’t stress and see what the bike fitter says!

Bike fit james’ videos might help you get a better understanding of what bike fit is in the meantime

Sry not something you can fix with buy x or change y. Have someone look at it, the hand is most probably cyclists palsy, needs to be addressed immediately before getting worse, cause that takes a long time to recover (speaking from experience). Too much pressure on the wrong part of the hand which can come from basically any point in the bike fit (handlebar width / reach / saddle position / angle / hood angle up/down/….) or muscular problems (weak core / instable shoulder / rotated hip / …)

Probably not something Reddit can fix, but if you want to try and bodge it, go to r/bikefit 😉

  4. Symptoms point to saddle height, bar width and total reach. If your bars are wider than your shoulders as well as reach being too long it can put alot of stress through the shoulders and wrists. I imagine the bars are somewhere in the 44-46cm range? If yes you’d probably benefit from something around the 38-40cm range. Measure the pointy bits on the tops of your shoulders. Bars can be a good way to knock back reach as well if needed.
