I'm selling my steamroller, a sad moment, but I rarely ride it these days. My knees can't handle the grind anymore. I'm curious if y'all have found an equally fun type of daily commuter bike? I love how simple and zippy and smooth this bike feels. I have a touring bike, love it, but never ride it in the city because it's too clunky for me.
I'm just looking for a little inspo – thanks!

Easier ratio + single speed freewheel w/ both brakes? Could let you keep the same bike and still have plenty of fun!
Exactly what the other commenter said make it a single speed with a easier ratio and brakes and ride the shit
Light ratio Yes – freewheel No. I’m prolly old enough to be any of you guys grandfather & lemme tell you from experience(hehe) that fixed with good pedal stroke is far better for you than singlespeed deadspots & coasting. Getting rid of that bike would be foolish but good luck with your decision.
Single speed with a front rack: infinite beer and pizza hack.
Sticking with changing the ratio or changing to singlespeed.
Currently riding a Fuji Track and keep thinking of building a more ‘urban’ bike with a front rack for food runs!
I bought a State Clunker 2 years ago, after a decade of riding my State 4130. It’s fun and goes anywhere, gravel or sand it’s fun. I don’t like to ride slow on a fixed, but I do on the Clunker.
I’m going off topic but I’m getting into motorcycles and years of fixed riding gave me some useful abilites that lightly translate to motorcycle riding. Like planning escape routes or swerving.
Why not through a freehub and bigger cog on it??

If you don’t mind saying, how old are you now? I’ve been worried about my knees as well but luckily they haven’t given me issues yet in my early 30’s. Still ride my FGFS weekly but I’m not doing much speed/skidding. Just flat-ground tricks and small jumps.
Freewheel it baby
Never quit riding fixed
You can always go for easier ratio and put front brake on, then your knees should be fine. Alternatively I have fitted 5 speed internal gear Sturmey archer hub into 120mm rear spacing frame and as a result I have very nippy and not so heavy winter commuter with low maintenance five gears.
I just put a freewheel on my track bike and had it be my commuter. I have a 26er I use for bike camping but the light single speed is much more fun in the city
