Some images from a recent ride in the German Odenwald, a bit north-east from Weinheim. It’s such a beautiful area, but the terrain can get spicy pretty quickly. In the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) you have these well-maintained, evenly graded forest-service roads…and here you just have chaos 😅.

One moment you’re riding champagne gravel, and the next you’re on some chunky stuff, fighting up a 24% climb. Honestly, it’s kind of interesting how wildly and quickly it changes. If you’re not prepared for it, it can definitely catch you off guard. But if you’re ready to embrace it, it can be a heck of a good time out!

The road cycling here is also very nice, and much less “chaotic”. I prefer to stick to the forests myself though, and am still refining my routes in the area for a better and better experience. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the region though. It hasn’t scared me off just yet!!

  1. I love this area! I find the most beautiful places when I decide to go gravel instead of road. Don’t know why oftentimes I go with road and the same routes. Time to switch up a bit a gain. What was this route you took? Especially this path with bricks?
