So, this cheap rack I have lacks any sidewall support for panniers. Bags constantly rub up onto my rear tire when shacking the bike around and I'd like to upgrade before I lock my rear wheel up going downhill.
I don't think stiffing up the sides would help much. I've considered cutting some coroplast in a way that presses both backs away from the wheel but I think it would be easier (and safer) to buy a new rack.
Any reccommendations?

I’ve got an Ortlieb quick rack which has been really good.
My Vaude aqua back pannier has a rigid back. That works.
Back when I had a paper round, my panniers had a plywood back, which worked as well, but at some point, the end of the axle would wear through.
Anything rigid between the pannier and the wheel will do. Just make sure it can’t get caught in the wheel.
Blackburn racks are excellent
Tubus cargo or logo. On the Logo, the panniers hang on a separate, lower rail. It’s also available in stainless steel if you want a little more bling, think it’s called Cosmo.
Put some hi-vis tape/stickers on your panniers. Be seen my friend.
I’ve been using Axiom racks for decades for moderate loads. Looks like you have a rack with adjustable legs… Those terms not to be great on support; a welded rack will serve you better.

Basically any that attaches to qr or eyelets near the axle.
I went into my local bike shop. Picked one that looked like it covered a lot of surface area and was cheap. I don’t think bike racks are a brand name product
