Was given this by a friend. I’m not a cyclist and have no idea what I have here, what it’s worth, or even the clip on shoes that this apparently needs.
My question is it worth anything? Should I sell it to someone who can appreciate this kind of bike? How much is it worth ballpark? It’s very light!
TIA to anyone who can impart some knowledge on someone who knows nothing of the sport but enough to know that I need to ask someone who does. ✌️

It’s an odd build, but has some very nice retro parts on there that would be desirable to the right person. The frameset is lovely and the Dura Ace parts are probably pretty valuable.

That’s a nice vintage Trek bike. It likely won’t go for much if you try to sell it. It has a hodgepodge of mismatched and non factory stock parts on it — but many of those parts (the ones that are Shimano Dura-Ace) were top of the line back then and are worth something if they are in good working order.

You can easily uninstall the pedals and install normal ones if you like. This also would not be hard at all to convert to a brifter setup if you don’t like the down tube shifters.

My (biased) recommendation is that you keep it and love it. Bikes like this have a character all of their own that really have to be ridden to be understood. At the very least, get it tuned up professionally and get a standard set of pedals on it and take it for a spin! :3

*P.S.* Bikes like this are easily converted into gravel bikes — just a change of tires can be transformative. The front chainrings are replaceable and decent gravel mechanical braking groupsets like the Microsoft Advent X are cheap and widely available. If you ever think you might want to try out a gravel bike, definitely keep this bike.

A pretty, mismatched build with an assortment of decent parts. As you’re not a cyclist, I’d swap the eggbeater pedals out for some flat ones and ride it.

Edit to say the market for it will be limited to enthusiasts, you could probably sell the parts for more online. I would recommend riding it for a while and see if you catch the bug.

I feel like if you got it gifted and sell it right away, that kind of sucks.

Either way, it’s not worth much, and those pedals fit with crank brothers cleats.

Keep it and ride it, these bikes are awesome

It’s got a full 7400 Dura Ace group with Sram 500 levers, all of which which sells well on eBay. Someone with experience could probably get close to a $1,000 parting it out, minus selling fees. That person would probably want to pay $300 or less for the whole bike. It’s a nice bike with great parts.

It was Treks first aluminum bike from about 1985 or so. It’s worth a couple hundred dollars or less, maybe a little bit more parted out. There won’t be a lot of demand for it.

    Edit

I don’t think you’ll get much more if you parted it out. Mostly random parts

simple trek vintage > OMG Modern 0.00008g carbon frame that makes you impede traffic 0.000001mph less and makes motorists that will start cracking in 2 seasons and costs 80000 per frame to replace not worth it eww 🤮 and makes greedy cooperations richer cuz all they are about i$ the money and nothing el$e not your wellbeing nor the $uffering of having to go back to buy another hunk of carbon that will crack in 1 season and cost a working man’s year salary.
