DAY 1: Genève → Montreux

Day 1: What a way to begin. I clipped in at CERN, right on the border between France and Switzerland, and rode 105 km following the shore of Lac Léman all the way to Montreux.
Vineyards, medieval castles, lake views, and more history than I could take in. This was not just a bike ride, it was a journey through a part of my life.

The route is packed with landmarks. Leaving Geneva I cycled past the headquarters of some of the world’s most iconic institutions — the Olympic Committee and Nestlé HQ among them. And the castles: Château de Rolle and Château de Morges, rising right out of the lakeside.
Villages like Rolle, Morges, Lausanne, Vevey, and finally Montreux passed by one after another, each one postcard-perfect.

Lavaux – the highlight of the day
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a stretch of terraced vineyards carved into steep hillsides above the lake, with the Alps as a backdrop. One of those places that stops you in your tracks. Truly breathtaking.

A personal ride
This route carries a lot of meaning for me. Along the way I passed through places where I worked with clients, universities and schools where I taught, and spots I visited before. Riding through them on a bike, at my own pace, hits differently. Some moments were genuinely emotional.

About the Route
The route crosses Switzerland from Geneva to Rorschach, linking the country’s most iconic lakes. It’s one of the most scenic cycling routes in Europe, a mix of lakeside paths, quiet roads, and stunning landscapes that changes every few kilometres.
