Big news coming from Lithuania as the country’s State Defence Council on May 27th approved the acquisition of 6×6 wheeled armoured personnel carriers from Finnish Defence firm Patria.
This will POTENTIALLY see the Baltic nation joining the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) Programme as the 8th member although this is yet to be finalized.

I think this is a good choice for Lithuania as it's cheap and able to procure in large numbers.Since Latvia has the Patria 6×6 the choice is likely logistical reasons and relations with Finland.I wonder if Lithuania considered Otokar Arma 6×6 besides this one
Lovely video! Would like to see a video on the new Lithuanian ANBO. I am sure its coming up, but that would be an interesting topic to cover
so it looks like overall there are about 5000-6000 intended purchase orders for the 6X6?
The most important Anti Drone version seems to be missing.
Great news, less reliance on the usa
✌🏿
NEWS: Sweden is donating 16 Gripen C in early 2027. They just had a press conference. ✈
Great news. I think if Europe can land on maximum 2-3 different variants for most big ticket military equipment, then that would be good.
The time of each nation having their own bespoke model of whatever is finally over it seems.
Thats gonna cause quite a massive logistical and maintenance problem, especially for such a small "army"
they be using them as public transport too w how many they bought xD
News item published 28.5.2026 by The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command. Copy of news text below.
Finland and Latvia agree on the development of a Common Protected Vehicle system.
Finland and Latvia signed an Implementing Arrangement on the joint development of a Common Protected Vehicle (CPV) system and related technologies in Tampere on 28 May 2026. The arrangement also enables future serial procurement.
The Implementing Arrangement is related to the Technical Arrangement in Co-operation concerning Joint Procurement of Mobile Systems and Technologies, signed by Finland and Latvia on 27 May 2026.
The Implementing Arrangement was signed on behalf of Finland, under the authorisation of the Minister of Defence, by Major General Tero Ylitalo, Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, and on behalf of Latvia by Alans Andrulis, Head of the State Defence Logistics and Procurement Centre.
The Implementing Arrangement initiates the joint development of a Common Protected Vehicle (CPV) system between Finland and Latvia. The system will include protected off-road trucks, tactical vehicles and tracked transport vehicles. Development will initially focus on a protected off-road truck in cooperation with Latvia.
If you need soldiers on top, exposed to fire, you bought the wrong vehicle.
Patria: "Here comes the money €€€€€!!!"
Soon everyone has Patria’s APCs except Estonia that acquired Turkish alternative, thanks to Finnish commie government, president Halonen and foreign minister Tuomioja who caused lost of trust for future sales and service supply. Reason was that Estonia was a ”countey in war” even Finland was there in the same Afganistan operation.
Four years after their near neighbour was invaded seems a long while to wait to order this system.
CAVS is a great program. The 6×6 is a very sensible and rational vehicle affordable at scale.
Welcome to the family, Lithuania. The more, the merrier.
Lithuania doesent mess around. Congratulation
Well nemo turets are wellcome in Lithuanian army 🙂
As an estonian it is so weird to me our decision to drop out of the Patria deal. Before WW2, we built ourselves a strong, independent/neutral military with multiple foreign and a strong domestic arms production chain.
Quite similar to our decisions today, we chose to build up our foundations and walls. And hope our distant allies were enough to provide us with a roof.
And here we are, yet again. This time its not the French and Brits who are failing to man up. Its the Americans.
But the basic math remains the same. Why not build castles and walls alongside our neighbours instead?
We still choose to build foundations and walls on our own instead of integrating better with out neighbours. Social distancing traditions at this time? We should go back to the closeness of COVID era.
Thanks
Vardan TOS!!!! ALL ok.very good news.becouse our people, soldiers, rifle union, ops, need have iron shiel;)offcourse now other Drone GOD group crying😂😂😂thei still not understand they drone squods get same patria;)
Going amphibious is bollocks imho, sacrificing armour for such a stupid perk, which can be needed like… never. Sure, one can go into water, but to find a spot where to land is predictable and after a few APC's have landed, the place is unusable if it does not have concrete base underneath. That's why one need pioneers/engineers with capabilities for bridgeheads and/or safe relocation.
But, congrats to Lithuania, volume itself should be enough for attrition covered.
Why a 6×6 and not an 8×8? Seems like the logical choice to go with Patria but they have an 8×8.
936 ! That is alot. The number is insane
I guess the CAVS program fits well with the advice go big or go home.
The real life battle-bus 😄
There definitely is a pattern emerging as to the distribution/adoption of the Patria 6X6 family throughout the Euro-theatre.
Maintenance will be simplified and less costly, logistics will benefit from wide distribution amongst allies, as will multiple manufacturing hubs.
There are monetary savings to be had in a 6X6 however, it behooves me to question its cross-country abilities vs an 8X8 in that geographic setting.
On the whole, it is a sound decision, particularly if economic-industrial benefits are included in the package. Be well and stay safe
Sorry but Lithuania isn’t a big enough country to even park 900 vehicles.
Finland and Latvia just signed agreement for the development of a common protected vehicle.
"The system will include protected off-road trucks, tactical vehicles and tracked transport vehicles."
Nice purchase – deep dive into Lithuania military – this allows it to go on the offensive and push deep where/when needed, development of combined arms fire and movement is in their future – lets watch how they handle this. Cheers
This is a lot. For a country the size of Lithuania.
Wheels – hmm, it will limit to good roads 😢
Lithuania can build them locally.
Good choice for Lithuania. With huge forests and probably never going to go on the offensive will be absolutely ideal.Better then tracked vehicles for maintenance.
Lithuania needs to militarize itself to the fullest extent, the way Israel did
Hopefuly nemo and trax versions will be included.
It is same trend in all Baltic states. Ljubomir Putina still believe that it is easy piiece.
Damn no need to walk anymore for lithuania anymore😂
При наличии придурковатых соседей армию необходимо перевооружить…
we defenetly need at least some track vechicles because of deep snow and muddy/ swampy terrain
If LT are smart enough they as well will join ASCOD2 and get rid of CV90
🤦♂️
