  1. Jonas and his team said that in the past, Jonas has had even better numbers in the Vuelta when he's done to Tour Vuelta double. There's no way that this could be true. For example, Almeida was better than Jonas on the biggest climb in the Vuelta this year, and pretty close to him in the rest of the Vuelta.. Pogacar has always been on a whole other level compared to Almeida, so if Jonas was better in this years Vuelta or even at the same level as at the Tour, Almeida would not have been beating him on the Angliru.

This is clearly Jonas realizing that he doesn't have much chance against Pogi, so he's going to focus on at least winning the Giro.

  2. It makes total sense for Jonas to race the Giro, Jonas a great shot at winning and can likely still podium at the TdF. Even if Jonas skipped the Giro he would most likely only podium at the TdF. So by racing the Giro Jonas can get a GT win and not sacrifice his podium at the TdF. Jumbo gives up nothing and gets a Giro win. This is Pogi shaping the sport.

  3. I feel like it is missing the dimension that the level has increased over time. Best climbing performances were in the last 2 tours (seasons). Vingegaard level forced pogacar to get more professional and better his game. Pogi's level from his first 2 wins would not win him the tour anymore. He also did not have the best prep in 2023 with a broken wrist. Question is can vingegaard still improve to those new standards

  4. UAE is not gonna make it easy for Jonas on Giro for sure. Its gonna be a race so he will be worn out. Not like when tadej did Giro, it was like a training.

  5. Jonas is a fierce competitor – and remains Tadej’s only competition – no shame in coming second to him. AND SECOND in these major tournaments is incredibly impressive.

  6. he doesnt have the power and explosiveness to handle pogacar now that tadej has matured and figured out his 'i'm now first' formula. he will never again beat the impresario.

  7. I think Jonas and Visma have realized Pogacar is currently untouchable at the Tour for the next 2-3 years if he stays healthy and motivated. I believe Jonas will likely pick a Grand Tour where Pogacar is absent plus racing the Tour over this time. That strategy has the potential to net Jonas and Visma a Grand Tour victory plus a Tour de France podium nearly every year which is pretty impressive.
