My bike is a canyon- grand canyon on 8. I took my bike for a service and for the bikes computer to be looked at because it was being faulty at Evans Cycles (one of the UKs largest bike retailers). I got it booked in for a full strip down service on the first of may. I heard nothing back off them till i rang them on the 11th of may which then they informed me that had somehow LOST my entire crank arms and pedals in the process of stripping it down. They were very apologetic and stated they will fit new crank arms and pedals free of charge, charge no labor and also get me a new bosch led unit which i would still have to pay for. I said "fine as long as it's serviced and still runs perfect I don't mind" (the guy on the phone was young and seems very sorry).
I manage to get my bike back on the 14th of may, immediately work away in London for a week and get home on the 22nd. I have a bike ride planned (months in the making) on monday just gone the 25th where me and a friend are cycling 80 miles to his caravan. We stop after the first day and I've immediately noticed that it hasn't been really serviced that well as my brakes still feel sluggish but i didn't want it to spoil something ive been waiting all winter for. Comes to the second day (after riding on medium assist due to the 27C- 31C degree heat) we stop for a drink and i notice this. A massive chunk of my bike has been cut out of my chainstay. Atleast 10mm at the worst point. Then i check the chain ring and it's got tons of play in it and ultimately it ends up snapping my chain aswell (when trying to reach civilization). I am livid as Evans have ultimately ruined my bike due to their mishandling of the service and this being the only time I've been on (or seen) the bike since. I've already contacted evans and it is due to go back in on Saturday but ultimately the chainstay is ruined. It will lead to a fracture if i hit a decent enough pothole. What do you recommend i do?

Evan’s bikes is a good brand but doesn’t mean people can’t cut corners. The good news is they have the overhead to make this right for you. I hope they do. Go in calmly and explain the whole situation to whoever the manager if you have pictures of it undamaged before you brought it that will help your case. Emphasize the fact that they messed up and you were happy with it so long as everything was fine and they reiterate that it was very much not fine. From my experience if you come in hot headed, even if they deserve it, they will be a lot less likely to want to help you. Good luck I hope they get you right.
