3 Days • 175.6km Biked
Each day, from castle to castle:
1: Arrival in Blois, where our B&B, built originally in the 15th century, used to be a part of the castle it stood beside.
2: Blois – Amboise, 70.2km. I started off so nauseous that morning and it was pouring rain, but as I peddled I felt so much better, and we laughed as we wiped the rain out of our eyes. We were soaked to the bone, our shoes filled with water. The B&B in Amboise was incredible, again at the foot of a castle, and we enjoyed a warm shower before a local wine tasting.
3: Amboise – Azay-Le-Rideau, 63.1km. Rainy, but not like the day before! This day started out in vineyards, then passing through Tours, where we arrived as they were testing the town air-raid siren. We continued to the Caves Pétrifiées, with a surprise wine tasting. Off to Azay, in another unique B&B. We had supper by the castle gates.
4: Azay-Le-Rideau – Chinon, 42.5km. The last day! Wish it lasted longer. We finally had sunshine, and started biking through some lovely town streets. A few kms on gravel, where Riley popped a tire. Luckily we were near a town, and our bike company replaced it promptly! We had a wine tasting near Chinon, and ended at the very top of town, at the gates of the 10th century castle. Our B&B was also a historical piece in itself, with a quirky host. It was bittersweet leaving my trusty bike.
5: Before departing Chinon, we had some time to explore. We found a river-side terrace with views of the castle, and basked in the sun before taking our train to Paris. There, we enjoyed a Chinon bottle of wine, baguettes, and pastries, on the hill of the Sacré-Coeur cathedral. We overlooked all of Paris below us as live music played nearby.
Big thanks to @roosterbiketours for the amazing organization, from start to finish, and beyond. We can’t wait to do it again!
