Love it! No worries about the critics.
Great job bringing this classic bike back. Please put some caps on the crank bolts. They look exposed.🤣
L'Eroica says it has to be pre-87. Why?
Shouldn’t the rear wheel sit all the way into a dropouts?
Strong work
How about an Italian bike in Italy with with café stops and a nice full rounded trip up a nice slow climb.
She's definitely a beauty. That seat sure is up there though. My wrists would go numb riding a bike like that. Nice bike though
Omg those hood angles are atrocious😂
super cool my guy
That dull finish you are referring to is the original anodised finish. When you polish the parts you’re removing that anodised layer.
Paint doesn't delaminates it disbonds.
Take it up the Madonna del Ghisallo
Absolutely amazing!!!
I am 65. Last night after a whole month I finished restoring a BSA British 10 speed road bike that I acquired back in 1977. During the summer of 1981 in Spokane, WA I upgraded the crank set to Campagnolo and the wheel set to 700 mm clincher rims, because I didn’t know how to glue on tubeless tires properly (I still don’t know how). This time around I took apart everything and put them back while modernizing some. I have chatGPT on the side to help me distinguish between vintage dimensions and modern standards. I spent $500 in new parts and tools. Economically probably not worthy of doing, but I am the kind of person who likes to know the details of what I am riding so to me it is worth it.
It's surreal to hear the word vintage when listening to this segment. I still ride both road and off road. My serious ride in 1985 was a Pinarello Treviso with Campi Super Record componants, Eddy Merckx stem and Araya Aero Dark Anodized rims. Many many many road miles later and it still was smooth. Had a Peugot for rough surface riding because of the softer rear end.
Beautiful resto. I love the old steel frames and forks and components–especially the downtube shifters.
Rule of thumb saddle should match bar tape in colour and stem should match seatpost and handlebar too😅
You finally have a proper bike.
Nice set of tools 😊
Beautiful! and informative on the paint job. Only thing I'd change is that black headset. Have fun with it!
Espectacular
Lol rebuilt an entire bike and barely touched a tool off that park tool Taj Mahal monument on the back wall. 🤔
Regarding the internal routing I bought a duralinox frame in the mid 80s with that feature.
Sweet! Needs a silica frame pump….
One of the things that is purely opinion is using the original parts. I took my Colnago Master X Lite into Chris Robinson and made sure that the rear triangle is spaced out to 130 mm and fitted a set of Campagnolo 11 speed Super Record components. I also fitted Campagnolo Shamal titanium colored wheels. These older bikes REQUIRE installing tires larger than 23 mm (mine are 30's) with the tires flat and inflating them AFTER installation. My bike is new enough to use threadless fork but if yours is threaded, install an adapter so that you can use a modern stem so that you can properly fit the bike after assembly. The Frameset set me back $500 And I picked up the Super Record parts cheap when 12 speeds first came out and everyone was changing over to 12. My total outlay is probably$1,000 including the wheels. But I have a Colnago and you have some Bottecchia that no one but you and I have ever heard of. Your frameset handles better than my Colnago (which takes some getting used to) and your paint job here would cost more than my entire bike, but you must have some room to store classics while my garage is packed with bikes I need to sell to make room. People stopped buying good used bikes in 2010.

Just watching this and thought I recognise the presenter, did a quick Google and it is indeed Oliver (or Ollie). We went to school together! Great to see you doing ok, great videos – keep up the great work!
so did you ride it yet? I don't see the video
I have an all original Carlton professional in superb condition, bought it in the summer . Always wanted a Carlton bike since I was a kid , it oozes quality.
Great video, but 2 issues – bar tape isn't fitted properly (visible gaps at the hoods) and 23mm tyres????? (Are you mad????)
I have a 1992 Brian Rourke 653 which I love, but it is transformed by 30mm tyres (yes, they will fit).
Awesome restoration! It looks great!
yes more of these. test drive in perth, wa suggested
A great looking bike which will certainly get some attention. I have 70s 10 speed , which is pretty good condition, which I intend to rebuild in the new year. I’d be really interested in knowing where you got the decals from.
Some of the aluminium parts ar anodized though… They seem kinda dull and its a harder layer of aluminium oxide which protects the aluminium because its harder than the non anodized aluminium. When polishing, keep in mind its like a layer of Paint which is hard to get of.
Great work Ollie. It won't matter where you ride it, because those who know, will know! And well, you wouldn't be the first guy "busted" at a L'Eroica ride. I have a pre '87 carbon Look, and a pre '87 Vitus aluminum that get scoffed at by the vintage "Steel is Real" types. Most of them don't care much for may old Fuji's either and they ARE steel. Which only helps me rationalize showing up to group rides on clipless pedals and with derailleur extenders for a better climbing cog. Let's all just relax and enjoy the fact that these relics aren't in a bin somewhere.
why do you put the springs on the inside of the dropout? How do they keep the screws from loosening if they are on the inside? and dont you want your axel all the way back in the dropout?
Painted it – ruined the patina. I'm out.
Sehr cool 👍😃
These steel vintage bikes have a heart and soul that you cannot get with carbon!!!! Steel is real!!!! God bless you
I was good with all 3 videos until … black quill stem. Yuck.
Beautiful Bicycle! 🎉
But the Handlebar-Setup is horrible..
Im actually building a vintage bike but decided to upgrade all the accessories. For the original paint, im just wet sanding the clear coat and spraying a higher quality and durable 2k clear coat.
