Welcome to Japan Day / Japan-Tag / 日本デー in Düsseldorf, Germany! Held on May 23, 2026, this annual celebration is one of the largest Japanese cultural festivals in Europe and the biggest Japanese cultural event outside of Japan. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors — including manga and anime fans, cosplayers, and Japan enthusiasts from around the world — gather along Düsseldorf’s Rhine promenade to celebrate Japanese culture.

In this afternoon walking tour, we focus especially on the incredible cosplayers and the vibrant cosplay scene across the festival grounds. If you’ve seen my first Japan Day video, that one focused more on the booths, food stalls, and cultural activities — this walk is all about the costumes, creativity, and atmosphere among the crowd. In the end you will see my 2nd video of the fireworks, shot from a different perspective. My main fireworks coverage for this year can be found in the link below.

Japan Day 2026 once again featured live performances, cosplay and karaoke competitions, workshops, Japanese food, and much more. One of this year’s musical highlights was the performance by MIKAGE PROJECT on the main stage at Burgplatz. The day ended with the traditional Japanese fireworks over the Rhine under the 2026 theme “What a Wonderful World – A Firework Full of Joy.”

This 4K HDR 60fps walking tour was recorded with high-definition binaural audio in May 2026 on a hot day with temperatures around 30°C.
