bottom bracket

so i just installed a new BB but i noticed this gap on the drive side cranks and the cups (?) i think that’s what it’s called.
Is this normal?

there wasn’t a gap before with the old BB, and also when i add the spacer to the drive side it closes the gap, but also doesn’t feel like the other crank is on securely enough on the spindle (?)
