  1. It's ridiculous that a bike lane on a single street is controversial but the fact that street parking is on almost every single street somehow isn't. Who is subsidizing who here? Bike lanes move thousands of people while car parking let's a small handful of people store their giant machine at everybody else's expense.

  2. I think I'll save my evaluation for when there is more data. I suspect it's significantly better than a lot of alternatives, but it's probably not the ideal way to design this street, even if they want to maintain the same amount of parking and driving lanes.

  3. I like that it has a bike lane, I don’t like that you have to cross a lane of moving traffic to get to your destination if it is along this road. I prefer protected lanes close to curbs.

  4. Terrible. No tree canopy shade. Noisy vehicles either side. Surrounded by exhaust and dust fumes. Requirement to cross lanes to exit bike lane. Cannot access your destination if it’s mid-block.

  5. DC has one too. It feels a bit weird, you have to cross the street to get into it. It feels like curb aligned lanes are more comfortable even if this works. But this might be quicker to implement and then you can use it as leverage to redo the street with the lanes on the side

  6. I think it’s got the right idea, sort of poor execution though, I can see how it tries to prioritize bikes symbolically and subsequently make them the preferred method of transport but it misses the mark by not being especially appealing, noisy cars, no shade, etc. I hope the sentiments created by this persist into better bike lanes being developed

  7. Separated bike lanes are great, but running them down the middle is usually not great design. It means that have to cross car traffic at least twice when using it, and traffic lights get very confusing.

  8. Too weird for my liking. However, I do notice it says "fire lane" right down the middle, so I guess when the lights and sirens come, the bikes have to move aside.
