I’ve been searching this channel for quite a while now and am amazed at how helpful it has been. I’ve been eyeing this bicycle on Facebook marketplace but can’t find any opinions on this kind in here.
I’ve recently started boxing and want a touring bike to take on 10-20 mile rides pretty frequently. Gotta get my endurance up! 1976 has me nervous. Would love to hear what you think!

I wouldn’t be concerned about the age at all. I found a bike from the 70s, and it’s held up just fine. I even rode it for an eroica.
What might concern me is that this is described as a road racer, so the handling might suffer if it’s too weighted down. For light touring, it would probably be fine, though.
There’s no brazens to put racks on. But if you’re looking to do 10-20 miles, it could be a decent commuter bike. You are going to have to upgrade **a lot** of parts and components. If you have a good bike shop you’re looking at $150 + up to $300 in parts/labor at your LBS (local bike shop.) If you’ve got a bike co-op in your area, this would be a great bike to learn maintenance and mechanics on. And the co-op would be much cheaper
Btw, Im not saying it will be $300. But you’re gonna want to replace the tires/rubes for sure. And I’d definitely get it tuned up before riding.
I pic from the chain-side would be very helpful!
The wheel base could be too short to accommodate panniers, your heel might strike them
