The last person who put a chain on routed it wrong, needs undone and rerouted on the other side of that plate in the cage

  2. The chain is not supposed to go that way buy under the metal piece its rubbing

It needs to go on the other side of that plate. Take the chain off and reroute it.

  4. The chain is routed incorrectly through the derailleur. It should be on the other side of the aluminum tab.

You can put it into the highest gear (smallest cog) in the back, take the chain off the front chainring to release the tension on the derailleur. Remove the bolt on the lower derailleur pulley and get the chain into the correct position then reinstall the lower pulley (check the upper pulley bolt torque)

  5. Unscrew the lower jockey wheel, then you can re-route it without opening the chain. It needs to go on the other side.

Sometimes referred to as a “rookie mistake”. As previously noted the chain is routed through the derailleur incorrectly. Easy fix if the chain has a quick link.

Happened to us all (to me, about three times). Like falling over when starting out with clipless pedals – a rite of passage.
    (at least, this doesn’t hurt)
