  2. It’s the beginning of the season.

    Everybody wants/needs to buy new kit.

    So why start pushing with the budget/low margin series? Those who need will buy the more profitable stuff, as the need it now. Who can wait, can wait for the budget line. Or go for the for the high profit line as that will be discounted by the time the entry level is fully available (and still more profitable even at discount than the entry level line) and therefore an easy up selling. Discounts sell, even if they are rationally not good. So a $250 (was $399!) will sell better than a $179 recommended retail@no discount.

    Keeping some lines in store only keeps your store partners happy, and sells more kits at recommended price as those are less likely to be discounted. Win / Win for manufacturer and stores.
