St Albans is the resting place of Britain’s first Christian saint, Saint Alban. He was baptised by the famous priest Saint Amphibalus and died for his faith around the year 300.
His relics became an object of veneration, which is why the Cathedral and Abbey were founded as early as the 6th century.
The present building was begun in the 11th century — a thousand years ago.

Он был крещен знаменитым священником Амфибалусом. Погиб за веру где-то в 300 году. Его мощи – объект поклонения, потому и Собор-Аббатство заложены аж в VI веке. Теперешнее здание начато в XI в – 1000 лет назад. Порадуйтесь видам – и извините за музыку, надо ж было что-то поставить!
