Good buy for the money. The gearing might not be the greatest for a beginner rider in hilly conditions. I would swap out the front chain rings for something smaller.

Mixed.
For the money it’s a nice road bike and definitely a good one for learning. The components are fine, and very user maintainable which is a big plus for a starter bike.
But it’s an aggressive riding position and very much a road bike, so less suited for commuting. Id be looking for options for mud guards, pannier rack for bags, and cheap enough looking that it lowers theft risk.
Regardless, for the price it’s great and hopefully will give you many miles of great riding.

Yup, good deal. Nice bike for the uses you describe. And more.
It was made as a road bike for fast riding though. So it has no braze ons for racks or fenders. Depending on the climate and what you have to carry for commuting that might be an issue.
