I just installed these new steel Silverock disc forks on my 44 year Univega Specialissima. What's cool is the "chrome" fork is kind of a golden brass color, not silver, so it matches the 1982 gold / tan paint job. Thanks China!

It's fun rocking a bike with both disc brakes and cantis. I hope my frame holds up. I installed a new 36h Shutter Precision dynamo wheel build made specifically for this bike.

And because I treat my bikes like Lego, the hub is a 12mm through axel, with QR converter laced to a CR-18 rim. That means I can run this wheel in 4 different configurations: QR + rim brakes, QR + disc, Thru axel + rim brakes (does this exist) and a thru axel + disc. This wheel is abomination and does not exist in nature.

The whole thing seems kind of ridiculous and also kind of great. It feels super xbiking anyway.

  1. This is just gorgeous. I really appreciate your attention to detail; you’ve really nailed that classic look.

  2. what size tires are those? did you need to dimple chainstays to fit the rear tire?

NFEF, freakin love it. It’s so satisfying when a random fork matches a frame a little too well. What’s up with the cockpit setup? Why not just get a longer, taller stem? Threadless adapter/adapted or natural? Have the same xt triple and love it to death, and the infinitely future-proof front wheel is some big brain business.

Totally wondered about TA and rim brakes, I could see some crazy light carbon road bikes running that to great effect. I’d bet it could be commissioned in steel but probably mad spendy…
