Felt like I had to share this weirdly awesome 80s monstrosity that I recently got from marketplace for cheap in surprisingly good shape.

– this is a mid- to late 80s Kettler "Safari Street" – made in W. Germany
– early aluminum frame (hence "Alu-Rad") with steel fork
– Biopace triple and 6-Speed Uniglide cassette in the back
– SIS derailleurs and thumb shifters
– Sakae stem and bars with 22.2 clamp painted in frame color (from factory!)
– full fenders in matching color as well (also from factory)
– rear rack in frame color
– bell in frame color
– bottle cage in frame color 😀
– side wall dynamo and lights that still work astoundingly
– clears these Maxxis Ikon 26×2.20 with fenders (barely in the front :D)!
– even the grips seem to be original and in decent shape

This thing is dope honestly.

  1. I’ve been eyeing those!

The headbadge says KHS which was confusing

But ja! Kettler also made a step through model.

Wide tyre clearance in 26 inch. And slack headtube for street riding

Pretty dope bike! Enjoy and watch out for frame cracking

That is ace, I love it. The matchy matchy everything really works in this colour

Sounds fucken awesome. I like the colour, but everything apart from the cranks is a bit much.

  4. I bought one of these from a police auction when I was a teen. Great bike. Regrettably, I was still a little shithead who had not yet learned to appreciate bikes as I do now, so I didn’t take very good care of it. I wonder where it is now…

  5. Yeah I’ve been eye those too. Waiting for a cheap one tho!
And without a u-brake in the back preferably.
