Recently replaced my tires and tubes, but the gear change is so difficult. It rubs up against the plastic when I turn the pedals. Any advice on how to fix it would be great.
Edit: thank you everyone for your help. Unfortunately I was trying to follow the advice however a piece of plastic snapped off so I am going to wait for my brother in law. I am a lost cause

Your derailleur hanger isn’t seated properly. The two pulleys need to be below the cassette.

The derailleur (black bit with the chain through it) needs the be rotated to align, like shown in the attached. The part that the wheel goes into the frame is called the dropout and the claw of the derailleur needs to be in line with that. Look for “bike kitchens” or “bike co-ops” in your area that can teach you IRL.
This makes me feel like I’m having a stroke.
Your derailleur is misplaced. I’m trying to figure out exactly how, but it looks backwards somehow?
I’m not sure… Try taking the wheel off and maybe you get it right again? Maybe a picture with the bike upright is easier to comprehend and then we can help you.
First, you must remove the screw that holds the derailleur to the frame; it doesn’t go there. The derailleur mounts on the wheel axle. The small screw that comes with it has a cap with a segment on it The crescent-shaped piece should be secured to the right end of the frame, forming a sandwich. Then it should be aligned with the wheel mounting groove, and finally, you should tighten it The wheel nut.
