After doing weekly tours of around 60-70km and some 100km tours, I decided it was a good idea to try out 200km. My total on this bike is about 1200km now, started August last year.
As you can see in picture 1, the train ultimately took me home after i bonked on 135km because I didnt refuel properly.
Great ride nevertheless but I still feel a bit salty about not making it. Learned some stuff, so next ride will be better hopefully.
Route was mostly pavement with about 20% gravel

Where is the second bottle cage?
Distance cycling is 90% food.
If you want to give it another go this weekend let me know and Ill join you. Slow and steady to get your 200km day. Message me if you like!
I’m trying to figure out what the fueling plan was for this ride. A small top tube bag and a single water bottle simply isn’t going to be enough. I don’t care how big your jersey pockets are, it’s just not going to be a good idea.
This picture seems like something is missing. Where are you carrying spare tubes and bike tools like a simple patch kit, multi-tool, pump, etc.? Where are you carrying food?
How are you only on 1200 km since August after doing “some 100 km tours”? Do you only ever do long rides? what’s your normal weekly/monthly riding average?
Good attempt if you fueled properly, you would’ve gotten that done no problem. From the first hour you need to be trying to get 60-100 grams of carbs down per hour. I would suggest some carbs in your bottles the rest as snacks of cookies, candies, ect.
How did you do the brake cables internally routed. I thought it wouldn’t work on this version of the aspero! Asking because I have the same frame
It’s all about nutrition.
So… get a second bottle cage, keep training, and next time you’ll make it to the finish!
Slow=far, you need to pace yourself. Stay on top of hydration and nutrition. Ride on!
you would have finished if there hadn’t been a train to take.
European problems…
dont feel bad, 200 straight from 100 is a big jump.
Maybe from 100km -> 200km is too big of a leap. For me, increasing distance gradually (by ~30%) works better. 1200km since August is on the low side as well. More time in the saddle would help. But don’t worry, you’ll get there eventually. Hope you had fun nevertheless.
I once tried to go 250 km in one go, and bonked after 220km 🫠
Despite me having eaten three packs of gummy bears and a ton of energy bars, food fatigue kicked in and I didn’t eat as many of the energy bars as I should’ve. For my next attempt, I think I’ll stick to a strict schedule instead or relying on the feeling.
